Description

This book, guaranteed to be a tremendous resource for genealogists, documents all the persons buried in the Piney Creek Methodist Church Cemetery in Piney Creek, Alleghany County, North Carolina. The list includes each person’s name as it is listed on the monument, maiden name if known, birth and death dates, and the names of their mother and father, if known. Names are listed by row, and the book includes a name/page index of those buried in the cemetery.

The book will be updated periodically to correct errors and to include information on burials to that date.

Piney Creek native, Jerry Adams, has compiled the information and has donated proceeds of the book to Piney Creek United Methodist Church and the Cemetery.

(8.5″ x 11″, 36 pages, Saddle Stitched Booklet, Includes: Table of Contents, Cemetery Map and Name index)

From the Introduction:

“The enclosed information was compiled over the past five years and finished to coincide with the Piney Creek United Methodist Church’s Centennial celebration. As a person who enjoys a good challenge, I thought researching the parents of each person buried in the cemetery would provide that challenge as well as providing useful genealogy information for the community.

“The enclosed information has been gathered from many different resources and a few personal interviews. The first two people I talked with were my parents Billy Dean and Louise Halsey Adams. I have many relatives buried in the cemetery from both sides of my family. The information gleaned from them motivated me to start. Their constant support and patience in answering many questions made the completion of this project possible. My father passed away on November 20, 2008 and is buried in the cemetery.

“The books published by Mr. Rufus Clinton Halsey, Mrs. Lorene Moxley Sturgill and Mr. David Sturgill contain an incredible amount of information about the families of the Piney Creek community and were very valuable in compiling the cemetery information. For their many years of research we should all be grateful. A special thanks to Mrs. Edna Perry, Dent and Blanche Pugh and Lorene and Sidney Sturgill who welcomed me into their homes and shared a wealth of information about Piney Creek with me.

“The information I have gathered is not complete. It is a starting point, not a final document, of the individuals buried in the Piney Creek Cemetery. If you have information that should be added to this document or find information that should be corrected, please contact me at the address listed below. I look forward to hearing from you.”
